York’s ‘giant egg cup’ is the place to be this Easter

Clifford’s Tower has, in the past, been described as a giant egg cup due to the rounded walls and lack of a roof, which is quite appropriate seeing as it is the place to be this Easter. A fun trail for all the family is taking place here with delicious chocolate treats at the end for everyone.

Over the four main days of Easter, a warren literally bursting with delicious Lindt chocolate bunnies will be taking up residence in the tower just waiting to be taken home as prizes by the young visitors who complete the trail that will take place with the walls of the original keep of York Castle.

“We’ll be hiding clues in cunning locations all over the tower, from the courtyard to the chapel, and the shop to the wall walk, to ensure that it isn’t too easy for our young visitors to complete the trail, but with such a delicious prize for those that do, we’re sure that most children with a sweet tooth will persevere and find all of the trail markers,” says regional events manager, Jon Hogan.

Easter is also a great time to enjoy the views from the top of Clifford’s Tower over the historic city and beyond, with the first buds on leaves on trees around the panoramic vista returning colour to the skyline. “If you want to take some amazing photographs of the city, Clifford’s Tower really is the place to go, as your view is completely uninterrupted – no glass or wire mesh to spoil your pictures – and truly 360 degrees as you walk around the ramparts,” adds Jon.

Clifford’s Tower is open daily from 31 March from 10.00am to 6.00pm. Admission prices are £4.00 for adults, £3.60 for concessions and just £2.40 for children, or £10.40 for a family ticket (two adults and up to three children). English Heritage members get in free.
