Holiday lifeline given to cash strapped families by the YHA

The Youth Hostel Association knows that this is one of the toughest financial years for families in a long time. Many families have been sacrificing the summer holiday that they take every year in order to save money. Fortunately for these families, the charity have recently announced that they have a solution for those who are concerned about financing a holiday this year.

The YHA has stated that from July to September, hostels across the UK are going to be offering a family room, which can accommodate up to 5 people, for three nights, for less than £100. This is going to be available at around 200 hostels in the country and it is astonishing value.

It is estimated that this year alone the amount of disposable income that households have has been reduced by nine pounds a week compared with last year. This is a significant fall and has meant that over the year people are not able to put away enough money in order to afford an expensive holiday. The YHA are offering a fantastic alternative this summer.

The North West saw the strongest pressure on family budgets over the past year. Households face particularly tough employment conditions in the region, with the unemployment rate rising to 9.6 per cent in the three months to February, up from 7.9 per the previous year.

Families can choose from Youth Hostels in some fabulous areas, including towns, cities, National Parks and coastal locations. There are eight Youth Hostels alone in the UK’s capital, London and 15 located along the new Wales Coastal Path.

All Youth Hostels provide self-catering facilities and great value activities to suit all ages, to enable families to have a fun, comfortable and low-cost holiday.

Rt Hon Richard Caborn, YHA President and former Sports Minister, explained: “Being a charity, YHA’s mission is to help everyone, especially young people of limited means. Our summer deal for families is not only providing them with an opportunity to have a summer holiday they may not have otherwise had, but also offering them a great new experience.”

“With so many Youth Hostels to choose from and in such a wide variety of locations, we can provide a holiday to suit the taste and budget of every member of the family. You don’t even have to be a YHA member to take advantage of the offer and our network of Youth Hostels.”
