Family friendly dishwashers

When you have a young family and there doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done, so labour saving devices really come into their own. While we all take washing machines, tumble driers etc for granted these days, more and more of us are realising the time saved and the convenience of investing in a dishwasher.

Despite our best efforts to keep on top of dishes, they seem to pile up anyway and at the end of a long day looking after little ones, all you want to do is soak in a long, hot bath, not attack the mountain of crockery, cutlery and other items awaiting your attention. Dishwashers have, like all other appliances, dropped in price as their technology and popularity has grown, and these are not cost effective in more ways than one.

The type and size of dishwasher you need is very much dictated by the size of your family, so make sure you go through dishwasher reviews before making a decision to buy. While it may be tempting just to get a bench top or slimline one if you only have one child, are you sure that you won’t be adding to your brood in the future, when you will have to upgrade machines costing more in the long term. If you are confident, however, that your family is complete, these models would be ideal.

There are several rumours about dishwashers that have put parents off in the past, such as the story that dangerous bacteria builds up inside that can cause youngsters to fall ill. This is a complete fallacy as no bacteria, or fungi for that matter, can survive the hot temperatures or the detergent. Items washed in a dishwasher are both cleaner and more sterile than anything hand washed, so are actually beneficial to your children’s health.

They aren’t the energy burners they are thought to be either, as contrary to popular belief, dishwashers do not fill with water as a washing machine does. You can actually open a dishwasher during its cycle and it will not flood. This is due to them using and recycling only small amounts of water at a time, making them the most environmentally friendly of all kitchen appliances.

Another falsehood is that the likes of pans and cookware with baked on food don’t come clean. Washed at a higher temperature, way hotter than anything that comes out of the tap, ensures sparkling pots and pans, and no dishes standing soaking in the kitchen. If you have a family and a hectic life, a dishwasher can make a massive difference.
