Adopting a Dartmoor pony makes a unique Christmas gift

In a bid to raise much needed funds to go towards its vital work in preserving the famous Dartmoor ponies, the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Fund is offering a Dartmoor Pony Adoption Gift Pack. This is a perfect gift for anyone of any age, and particularly suitable for those who adore horses and ponies who aren’t able to own one themselves.

Adopting a Dartmoor pony really is a special and unique gift and allows you to follow your progress the whole year round. Those who have already adopted ponies, both new adopters and those who have been following the progress of their ponies for years pay testament to what a joy it is, and anyone who is considering doing this, or simply wants to find out more about the work of the Dartmoor pony trust should come along to

A FREE ‘Meet The Ponies’ Event – on 27th December, between 11am and 1pm at the DPHT’s headquarters at Parke, Bovey Tracey. There will be hot drinks, mince pies and a short walk or fun on the obstacle course with the ponies (weather permitting). Booking is essential: please phone 01626 833234

The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT) runs an Adoption Scheme as part of its work to ensure that the traditional type of Dartmoor pony does not disappear. Single-coloured with long manes and tails, Dartmoor ponies still run wild and free on Dartmoor, but their numbers are in serious decline.

Christmas fun with Dartmoor ponies!

By buying an Adoption, you will be funding the DPHT’s work to support the ponies on Dartmoor, to ensure they can continue to thrive as a vital part of the preservation of the Moor and its heritage. Your support will help to ensure the continuation of the native Dartmoor pony gene pool and the preservation of our iconic pony on the Moor, for future generations to enjoy.

The cost is just £20 per year for UK residents: £25 for those who live abroad. The Adoption Pack includes a beautiful line drawing and an adoption certificate and you’ll also receive updates on the development and progress of the pony you have chosen over the following year.

The pony you adopt, whether male or female, will be one of a small traditional herd cared for at the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust Centre, at Parke. These ponies are for everyone to enjoy and here you will be able to visit them all year, find out all about them, follow their interesting lives, discover their true value and how important they are to the Dartmoor landscape.

Ponies George, Charlie, Smartie and Rolo look forward to meeting you and to becoming part of your family.

These characters have a vital role to play in demonstrating just how good Dartmoor ponies are as family pets and for riding, driving and conservation grazing: they are fundamental to the DPHT’s innovative education programme for young people who have a range of disabilities and/or challenging behaviour. Some of the incredible achievements we have had with students is truly attributable to these loving, gentle, patient but tough little ponies.
