Some childcare experts now believe that wrapping a child in this way mimics the pressure that a baby feels while in the womb, and creates a increased sensation of security. The demand for this trend is so high that sales of swaddling clothes has shot up by more than 61% in the past year alone, so new research has revealed.

Swaddling is an age old practice where new born babies were wrapped tightly within a cloth, thus restricting their movements, and is recorded as far back as 4000BC, to the Ancient Greek and Roman times. When new theories regarding baby development took hold in the 1960′s it virtually disappeared as mothers were urged to dress their baby is clothes that allowed movement as they grew, such as babygrows.

A study in the British Medical Journal that was published in 2009 also deemed it potentially dangerous and reported that 25% of babies who succumbed to cot death had been swaddles at the time. The problem here is that cot deaths are so rare, the sample they used for the study was very small, and the NHS branded the risk as coming from an unreliable study.

The trend has returned with such gusto that Debenhams, the major high street retail chain, now have a separate section on their website for swaddling clothes. This contains a varied selection of both blankets and other wraps that can be used to swaddle new born babies as well as keep them warm.

It doesn’t matter what time of year you go, you’ll always see people in the water wearing wet suits. It could be the middle of summer but you’ll still find some people taking the time and care to put on their wet suits before entering the water. There is a very good reason for this. You might be perfectly content to keep swimming back and forth or catching waves on your body board without a wet suit whilst the sun in shining, but wait until it disappears behind a cloud and you feel how the temperature suddenly drops.

Kids will start crying all across the beach, and torrents of families will leave to head back to the accommodation at their holiday parks, planning on taking a warm bath and then huddling by a heater for the rest of the day. You don’t have to fall prey to this though. For a very reasonable price you can acquire yourself a wetsuit for the day, and believe me, it will make the water so much more tolerable.

It might not even be the case that you find you can’t stand the water, just that after half an hour or so your ears start to ache a bit and you find yourself getting more and more uncomfortable. As much as you’re enjoying messing about in the water it quickly becomes unpalatable to do so. Just think how easy it would have been to avoid this with a little forward thinking.

With so much focus on children’s fashion, Meadowhall is hosting a Kids Style Event as part of its October Fashion Month.  Former model and now full time personal shopper and stylist Jill Pollitt will host the two-day event starting on 22^nd October.  The This Morning and Britain’s Next Top Model star will be on hand to give mums top tips on styling their children according to seasonal styles and budgets.

A recent survey has shown that British parents spend approximately £700 a year on their children’s clothes, perhaps in an effort to keep up with celebrity children such as Suri Cruise and Madonna’s daughter Lourdes who, at thirteen, has her own fashion blog and new fashion line ‘Material Girl’.

Even the couture fashion shows in Paris now include children’s ranges, using models aged as young as five. The children’s wear industry is growing fast, and Meadowhall wants to make sure that Yorkshire is keeping up.

Research carried out earlier this year by OnePoll.com found that the typical female owns 13 bras but only wears eight of them regularly.
