Whether you were a fan or not of the original animated classic from the 1980’s Thundercats, you won’t want to miss the latest reimagining of it. It has now landed in the UK and from the 5th September was available to download from iTunes. The brand new animated series combines science and swords and there are ferocious battles taking places with high stakes. A new episode will be available every week on iTunes, before it hits the television screens of Britain on September 11th.

The original Thundercats told the story of the ascension of Prince Lion-O to the throne, and how his enemies were prepared to pay any price to thwart his destiny, and these tales take on epic proportions with this new telling. The forces of good and evil go head to head in the quest to gain the fabled ‘Stones of Power’, and Lion-O and his champions all learn valuable lessons in honour, mortality and loyalty in each episode.

This 21st century reimagining also marks a new creative collaboration between Studio4°C, one of the most innovative animation studios within Japan and WBA. The latter is making good use of the former’s expertise in utilising the characters and giving them a cutting edge new look, while staying loyal to the mythology and compelling storylines of the original series.

As ThunderCats roars to life through the use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, the characters of Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic catlike characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.

Download the first episode of ThunderCats exclusively on iTunes from 5th September, and look out for new episodes available each week.

ThunderCats will launch on Cartoon Network on 10th September.

New research from a bespoke photographic memorabilia website says a dentist visit tops the list of the most common first memory for children in Britain, beating out holiday and birthday party for the top spot.

While many would think that childhood memories would be centred around happy memories and events this new research has found that for the average Brit this may not be true.

The study by MyMemory.com was part of research into Britons favourite memories with 1,671 women and men eighteen and older taking part. MyMemory.com helps consumers through bespoke photography turn their memories into lifelong keepsakes. Therefore they were interested in discovering about the important childhood memories of people across the UK.

Respondents to the study were asked to state what they believed their earliest childhood memories were and were able to choose multiple answers, if they believed they had more than one. According to the results, the top 10 results were as follows:

1) Trip to the Dentist- 35%

2) Birthday Party – 33%

3) Holiday- 28%

4) First day of School- 25%

5) Trip to the Doctor- 24%

6) Day Out- 23%

7) Childhood Accident/ Injury- 17%

 Tooth Falling Out- 16%

9) Receiving Present- 14%

10) Playing with Friends- 12%

All respondents who chose ‘trip to the dentist’ as one of their earliest childhood memories were asked to explain why they felt that the trip had stuck in their memory. The vast majority, 86%, of respondents explained that they believed ‘fear’ of the trip had made it stick in their minds; whilst just 7% explained that it was because the trip had been ‘enjoyable.’

When asked what age they believe that they were when their earliest memory occurred, the average respondent, when taking all responses into account, believed that they were ‘4.3 years old’.

Rebecca Huggler, co-founder of MyMemory.com, commented on the findings:

“Memories are something that we all treasure, so with this research we really wanted to look into what people believed their earliest memories were. It was certainly amusing to see that a ‘trip to the dentist’ was the most common memory, particularly given that many felt they remembered the event through ‘fear’; but it just goes to show how powerful an effect emotions can have when it comes to holding on to memories.”

She continued:

“We certainly encourage people to keep their memories alive through photographs, as they are a great way to keep fond reminders around the house. However, when it comes to a trip to the dentist, I’m not sure how many people would have taken a snap!”

Everybody has their favourite takeaway, that indulgent treat that you eat at home with a glass of wine and makes you feel great. Some like Chinese food, others Indian, but far and away the most popular takeaway meal is the Pizza. It’s not surprising really, imagine sinking your teeth into a slice of delicious pepperoni or meat feast pizza, the cheese melting in your mouth and experiencing a true taste sensation.

Dozens of pizzerias have popped up in towns right across the UK, and we have all heard of the biggest chains where you can go in and eat your pizza, collect it or have it delivered. One of the biggest, and most popular is Domino’s. These are everywhere now, and it is a testament to the quality of their foods that their growth has been so rapid. Another service they offer is that you can order your pizza online to be delivered to your home.

You can even pay for it with your credit or debit card, saving you having to scrabble around for the cash when the delivery guy knocks on your door. So what is it about pizza that makes it the ultimate takeaway meal? Well for a start there doesn’t seem to be anybody who doesn’t like pizza. If they don’t like a deep base they can have a thin one, and vice versa, if they can’t eat dairy, miss off the cheese.

There is also the sheer variety and versatility of pizzas that make them so special. Apart from all the delicious favourites such as Marguerita, Bolognese and Meat feast, you can build your own pizza. You start with a base and then just order which toppings you want, this is perfect for those with a slightly off the wall palette who taste things differently and like to mix flavours that you would never normally have on the same plate.

You can do this over the phone or on the Domino’s website, which also means you can take your time and make a true gastronomic creation. Team up your pizza with a couple of side orders or maybe a garlic bread and you have a feast fit for a king, or a perfect night in with your partner. Sure you can go out to a restaurant for a pizza, but for some reason they never taste as good as when they are delivered hot to you door in their box.

When is a Jammie Dodger not a Jammie Dodger? When it’s a toffee or chocolate dodger. The marketing team at Burton’s has been very busy putting together an innovative new campaign to get the word out that there are now three flavours in the dodger family. A brilliant new video on YouTube featuring three monkeys known as Jammie, Choccie and Toffee is proving to be a huge it with thousands of new hits every day.

It’s well known that animals sell, be they real or computer generated. Would a certain price comparison website have been so successful without the help of a Meerkat? This indicates the pulling power of animals doing unusual things. The three monkeys in this campaign are certainly doing that, but with a cuteness and lovability about them that screams merchandise. It only seems to be a matter of time before cuddly monkeys, keyrings etc will be in our shops.

The video begins with Choccie monkeys working the decks like a DJ in Ibiza, with a swirling 60’s style backdrop a la Austin Powers. The monkeys then take it in turns to cut a funky groove in front of the hypnotic and psychedelic background, doing a selection of different styles of dancing in a monkey dance off. The result is a hilarious and entertaining video that will let people know there are new flavours available much quicker than the spoken or written word.

This isn’t the only ad in the campaign, but it is already the one that everyone is talking about. The Jammie monkey doing the Saturday night fever moves is already becoming a firm favourite, his red colouring could make for a highly collectible figure if the expected merchandising hits the shelves. Toffee is also a funky little mover, and expect to see Choccie spinning the decks at a club near you very soon.

Trying to bring out new versions of a favourite food is always difficult, and even more so with a product as iconic as a Jammie Dodger. The marketing has got to be spot on to get potential customers to sit up and take notice, and they have got it spot on with the monkeys. The Jammie Dodger crosses all ages and is one of the UK’s most popular biscuits, now people will be dropping all the flavours into their basket and humming the tune as they head for the checkouts.

We are pleased to be able to provide details of the Skip-Hop competition in which you can win a 7-night Eurocamp holiday. In addition, we have a full range of Panda drinks (6 flavours) and a skip-hop set from skip-hop UK to giveaway to a lucky Kidszine reader.

An infinitely cooler alternative to traditional skipping, skip-hop is a fusion of sports skipping and street dance that first rocketed to fame in the CBBC series Jump Nation. skip-hop is officially the hippest way for kids to keep fit, and all they need to get started is a skipping rope! The search is on to find which kid has the ultimate moves to be named skip-hop champion 2010.

Panda Drinks are looking for kids aged 12 or under who thinks they might have what it takes to record a short film of them showing of their best skip-hop techniques (no more than one minute in length). To make the grade skip-hoppers will have to demonstrate the speed, agility, skill and creativity needed to make it as a future skip-hop star!

To get expert insight on skip-hop and top tips for making filming entrants can visit www.pandadrinks.com. The competition closes on 30 October.

Here are some more hints and tips to help you take your skipping to the next level before you enter:

Explore the Panda Does skip-hop section of the site, including skip-hop UK’s brilliant tutorial video!

Choose some of your favourite skip-hop moves and link them together to make a routine, practice so that one move flows into the next.

Use simple moves as a link between more tricky moves to help you keep the routine steady.

Practise your complete skip-hop routine, once you can perform it three times in a row with no mistakes you are ready to film!

Keep you routine simple and practice it to music to help you keep your rhythm. A simple routine with no mistakes is better than complicated moves that go wrong!

Get an adult to help film you skipping and make sure they hold the camera still!

Download the Panda Guide to skip-hop for even more great tips and ideas.

Extra prizes will be awarded for the most original routine, the skip-hopper having the most fun, the skip-hop routine that makes us laugh the most and lastly the best synchronized routine with two or more skippers!

Skip-hop UK will judge the entries and name the champion who will win a fantastic Eurocamp seven-night family getaway at any of its parcs. The ideal opportunity to perfect those skip-hop moves in the open air!

Two skip-hoppers will be chosen as runners up, both becoming a skip-hop star for a day when the guys from skip-hop visit their school to deliver a skip-hop workshop and a skip-hop presentation to the whole school with them as the star! + a goodie bag containing everything they need to take their skipping to the next level and a year’s supply of Panda to keep their thirst quenched while they practice.

To get some skip-hopping inspiration in advance and to download the Panda Guide to skip-hop visit www.pandadrinks.com. Visit www.skip-hop.co.uk to find out how to find a skip-hop class near you or to get your hands on all the latest skip-hop gear!

Lunchboxes often includes cartons, plastic bottles, sandwich bags, yoghurt pots, crisp bags, biscuit and bar wrappers, dip containers, cling film and sandwich bags. Multiply this with the number of lunches you prepare in a year and you start to see how much you are contributing to landfill. Packing a waste free lunch means that you have no waste to throw away when you have finished.

We all know that the best way to reduce waste and litter is not to create it in the first place. This is, however, easier said than done when supermarkets are selling more and more pre-packed, convenience products designed for our children’s lunchboxes. Products that are carefully packaged into snack sizes and individually wrapped.

Food Kozie

A waste free lunch does not only save on packaging and the environment it saves money too. By buying bulk rather than pre packed convenience foods there are pounds to be saved. My Friendly Lunchbox (http://www.myfriendlylunchbox.co.uk/), a newly launched website selling products for a waste free lunch, advises families to buy a block of cheese and a big bag of raisins rather than the snack packed cartons and individually wrapped cheese portions. You can also make your own flavoured water for free and make dunkers and other dips for half the price.

Recently there has been a lot of health warnings about Bisphenol A (BPA), an industrial chemical found in many plastic bottles and food containers on the market. Those who want to avoid BPA, should therefore look out for products that are made from stainless steel or plastic items that are marked or sold as ’free from BPA’. My Friendly Lunchbox source and sell BPA free, high quality products that make it easy to pack a waste free lunch for school, work and picnics. The wide range of eco friendly bottles, lunchboxes, wrappers and food containers offer the perfect lunchbox solution for everyone.

The family cruise market is buzzing with agents reporting an increase in interest from families for their offerings. The stereotype of cruises being only for OAPs no longer holds any ground. Modern cruises provide excellent entertainment for all members of the family. From waterparks to cinemas and casinos, there is lots to entertain those young and old. The Disney cruise is one that is particularly popular with kids (and big kids) and you can get great Disney cruise deals throughout the year.

However there are some points to consider when booking a family cruise.

•	Health conditions of the particular cruise you book should be checked thoroughly. For example, some cruises won’t allow pregnant women on boards.
•	Like any trip always check the additional fees. Always book travel insurance. Kids are lovely most of the time but they have a nasty habit of picking up illnesses at exactly the wrong time. Most travel insurers will refund the holiday if a member of the travelling party picks up an illness that makes them unable to travel.
•	Another tip is to check the onboard prices. Drinks are notoriously expensive on cruises so be sure to check out the prices of food and drink when working out your costs.
•	It is also worth having a look on the tipping policy on board the ship.

Great family cruise deals are available at a huge variety of locations so find one and enjoy.

Having children is certainly an expensive business. Young families usually have to cope with owning one of their first properties along with maintaining the child’s welfare, and as they grow older this can get a whole lot trickier. Not only have you got to think of how to spend money to keep your child happy, there’s also their higher education to consider. If you want your child to get through university, then it can present a financial conundrum – university costs £9,000 in tuition fees alone, and when accommodation and living costs are factored in this can double. So where are you going to find the £18,000 to finance your child’s education?

Student Loan

Unless you have a large amount of cash spare, then making sure your child has a student loan is essential if they are going to feel financially comfortable through university. A student loan has a rate of interest that matches the rate of inflation; therefore it is quite simply the cheapest loan your child will ever get. Even if it’s not needed, it’s worth getting and then putting into a savings account, as you will make a profit on the interest accrued – take a look at Alliance and Leicester for a comprehensive range of savings accounts. One thing to note about the student loan is that it’s purely for upkeep and accommodation. Fees are only repaid after university through whatever salary the graduate will have. So long as it’s over £15,000 a year, they will be repaying their student loan and fees as if it was another tax.

Child Trust Funds

If you’ve got your child’s further education in mind from their early age, then you’ll be on the right track for funding them through university – the earlier the better. One of the best ways to save is through a child trust fund. This is a stock market based investment, which the government will contribute to, and expires when the child reaches a certain age. Over the long term, the stock market is normally the best way to accrue the best return on your money, and investing regularly will see the value rise neatly. Just think, if you put in just £50 a month for 18 years, then that’s £10,800 even before the return on investment is considered! Basically, it will pay a lot to think of this early.

Banking and Insurance

Funding your child’s way through university is only part of the financial planning you’ll need to consider. Sure enough, if you take out a student loan and have an effective saving plan in place, then you’ll have much of the finance you’ll need to see them through the three or four years. Apart from this, you should also consider a student bank account. These are standard savings accounts with large interest free overdrafts – normally between £1,000 to £2,000. They can also offer perks for opening one, such as a free young person’s rail card for five years, or a £50 cash incentive. Further to this, student insurance is also vital. Considering the often lax security of student accommodation and the value of student property, it’s an important thing to consider – it might even be the most important thing to consider if something of high value was damaged or stolen!

Following a year long quest, today 22 children are representing Britain’s 4 million schoolchildren to present their manifesto for a greener Britain to MPs. A group of bright young children from across the UK will set out their plan at meetings with Ed Miliband, Secretary Of State For Energy and Climate Change and Greg Barker, Shadow Minister for Climate Change

The Generation Green think tank has been set up by British Gas as part of its Generation Green schools programme.

The manifesto is calling for the following:

• All UK schools to set clear goals to cut their carbon and to be able to see how much energy they are using, so they can work with their teachers to find ways to cut down;
• Green issues to become a part of every lesson on the school timetable and for teachers to be given more training and support to help them do this;
• All schools to be given Government funding for green energy, in the same way as schools are given funding for books and other essentials;
• A ban on the standby button – stopping manufacturers from making electrical items with standby buttons;
• Government to make it easier for people to recycle by putting more recycling bins in public places like parks, city centres and restaurants;
• Government to make it easier for local businesses to recycle their waste.

According to new research from The Children’s Mutual, the old saying that good manners cost nothing is not strictly true, as 44% of children are now financially rewarded for good behaviour.

Award winning Child Trust Fund Provider, The Children’s Mutual, has revealed that as well as good behaviour, parents are also offering an ‘honest wage’ for a hard day’s work. 37% of children ‘earn’ their pocket money by helping out with chores around the home and 19% fill their piggy banks by helping out with the family pet.

As the Government announces plans to make financial education compulsory for children as young as five from 2012, leading Child Trust Fund provider The Children’s Mutual has launched a new Pocket Money Petz microsite which has been created to help parents teach their children about pocket money and saving.

Children can choose a ‘virtual’ pet, from a dog to a dinosaur, to help them learn to boost, manage and save their pocket money earnings, and while children have fun deciding which character to accompany them through PocketMoneyPetz, their parents can put a value against each chore to help them learn the value of money.

Tony Anderson, Marketing Director at The Children’s Mutual, said: “As children are receiving more and more pocket money in return for undertaking household chores, helping with the family pet and their good behaviour, we created Pocket Money Petz to help spark their imaginations about earning and saving money.”

According to The Children’s Mutual research, the going rate for pocket money has increased by a whopping 83% in a single generation from when their parents received pocket money until today. Parents are already giving an average of £2.85 a week to their child, with many (27%) parents expecting to increase this amount by £1 each year.

However, despite the rise in pocket money, The Children’s Mutual research showed that parents are often unsure of how much to ‘pay’ their children and can feel pressurised to compete with how much other parents give. Nearly one in five (18%) said there was pressure to conform to a ‘market rate’ and 16% said they feel they pay too much but ‘have to go with what everyone gets’. In response to these concerns, The Children’s Mutual has also created a Parents’ Pocket Money Guide which offers advice on teaching children about money, how to give pocket money, when to start and how much to give and how often.

Children also have their own user-friendly Pocket Money Guide which helps them to understand where money comes from, how to budget, keeping money safe, and ways of saving for the items they want. The colourful guide also comes with ready reckoners and games to help children become more familiar and used to dealing with money.
